New to church?
What to expect
At SLC we believe
that God is great and all our meetings are geared towards expressing that fact.
Doors open at 10:00am so you can enjoy a fresh coffee from our ‘Connect’ Coffee
Bar, before the meeting kicks off at 10:30am. ‘Sunday Morning Live’ includes
praise and worship, communion, a few announcements, and a life-applicable talk.
A normal message will be about 30-35minutes long and the whole meeting usually
lasts about 1˝ hours. ‘Connect’ Coffee Bar opens again after the meeting, so
you can stay and chat with friends over coffee and cake!
What to wear
In every aspect of our church we aim to be relaxed
and informal and this applies to dress as much as anything else. Some like to
wear more formal clothes; some informal. Please come in clothes you are
comfortable in!
Communion
Communion is the part of our weekly meeting where we
remember the fact that Jesus died on the cross and rose again. During this time
we eat bread and drink fruit juice as symbols to remind us of Jesus’ body and
blood. Communion is usually served along the rows, but if you would prefer not
to take it, simply let the servers pass you by.
Offerings
Each week during our Sunday meetings we take an
offering. As a church our only source of income is our offerings and we like to
give people the opportunity to give financially into what we do. We teach those
who belong to the church the power of generosity and investing into what we are
doing. For this reason we see the offering as very important but please do not
feel under pressure to give.
What if I have children?
Children are very important to us in our church and
we believe that they can experience God and should be an active part of our
meetings. During ‘Sunday Morning Live’ children stay in for
the praise and
worship and then, during the preaching, they go out for their own teaching. As
a parent you are welcome to send your children out for teaching or, if you
would prefer, you can keep them with you. Before and after the meeting children
will normally play together, as we want them to enjoy being together and making
friends.
We have a child protection policy in place and any
children’s workers have been police checked.
